Discover what’s at stake at the Rolex Shanghai Masters from October 1 to 12
The Rolex Shanghai Masters, running from October 1 to 12, returns as one of the crown jewels of the Asian swing. Staged on the outdoor hard courts of the Qizhong Forest Sports City Arena in Minhang, the tournament enters its 14th edition since its 2009 debut. The draw features 96 singles players, 32 doubles teams, and 48 qualifiers, making it one of the largest events outside the Grand Slams. Importantly, it is also one of just nine ATP Masters 1000 tournaments held beyond Europe and North America, giving it a unique stature on tour.

Jannik Sinner arrives as the defending singles champion after his dominant triumph last year. In doubles, Wesley Koolhof and Nikola Mektic lifted the trophy in 2024, but the pairing won’t be returning, as Koolhof retired from professional tennis late last season, while Mektic now partners with Austin Krajicek. As a result, the double crown is guaranteed new owners.

mma I’m an academic turned sports writer from Raipur, India, specializing in the NFL, MMA, and tennis at The Playoffs. I previously wrote for Sportskeeda and hold a B.A. and M.A. in History. My journey into sports media began far from the field, rooted in the arts and sciences. Funny enough, I didn’t grow up a sports fan; I used to see it all as just noise. But a fateful writing job introduced me to the world of sports, and what began as a gig quickly became a passion. I understood those voices aren’t noise; they’re emotions of true sports fans, and now I am one of them, writing with the same energy I once questioned.
