Aryna Sabalenka vs. Marta Kostyuk Head to Head Record, Preview and Prediction for WTA Madrid Open 2025 Quarterfinal

Kostyuk once stated she “does not respect” Sabalenka in 2023.

Around 24 hours after her Round of 16 triumph, World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka returns to Manolo Santana Stadium for her Madrid Open quarterfinal on Wednesday. The Belarusian powerhouse faces Ukraine’s Marta Kostyuk in a high stakes, high reward encounter. Kostyuk is seeded No. 24 at the tournament, and comes into the match with great momentum. Can she stop the unstoppable force?

With three consecutive finals appearances to her name across her last three tournaments, Aryna Sabalenka is looking to make it 4/4 at the Spanish capital. The 26-year-old also reached the final at the Australian Open earlier this year, losing to Madison Keys. Finishing as the runner-up in Madrid last year, Sabalenka will be desperate to regain her lost crown – she was the champion here in 2023. She beat Blinkova, Mertens and Stearns to make it to the quarterfinals.

A former Top-20 player, Marta Kostyuk has dropped to No. 36 in the world rankings. The Grand Slam and Olympics quarterfinalist is having a par 2025 outing – a win over Sabalenka will result in her maiden semifinal entrance of the season. Kostyuk has a 11-9 record this year, but doesn’t have a positive history against her three-time Grand Slam winning opponent. The 22-year-old overcame multiple hurdles in the form of Raducanu, Kudermetova and Potapova to book her spot in the last eight.

Aryna Sabalenka vs Marta Kostyuk Head to Head Record

Aryna Sabalenka has a 2-0 head to head record against Marta Kostyuk thus far. Wednesday’s quarterfinal will be their second meeting on clay.

The fact that Sabalenka is yet to drop a set against Kostyuk is testament to her power and dominance. In their first even face-off, the reigning US Open champion was the top seed in Dubai. Coming up against Kostyuk in the Round of 32, she was ruthless from the baseline. In the return fixture at the 2023 Roland Garros Championships, No. 2 seed Sabalenka won convincingly yet again.

Aryna Sabalenka vs Marta Kostyuk Madrid Open 2025 Prediction

In their last meeting on clay, Sabalenka showcased why she is among the best clay courters in the world. The top seed will attack the Kostyuk serve, and target her backhand wing. Meanwhile, the Ukrainian will have to go for her shots and attempt to dictate rallies from the back of the court. Considering their strong baseline game, don’t be surprised if either player attempts some drop shots to change the rhythm and pace.

Prediction: Aryna Sabalenka in straight sets.
