Elina Svitolina vs. Moyuka Uchijima Head to Head Record, Preview and Prediction for WTA Madrid Open 2025 Quarterfinal

Sankalp Harikrishnan

Svitolina is on an 8-match winning streak.

In a battle of the in-form players of the tournament, World No. 17 Elina Svitolina takes on Moyuka Uchijima of Japan on Wednesday. The two players have displayed enormously high levels of tennis this week, and take to Arantxa Sanchez Stadium for a spot in the 2025 Mutua Madrid Open semifinals. Interestingly, this is not the first meeting between these two stars of the WTA.

Elina Svitolina has been a consistent star of the circuit for numerous years now. The Ukrainian has won 16 sets in a row over the past two weeks, including a trophy at the Open de Rouen in the process. Svitolina is a former World No. 3, and has reached the quarterfinals or better at all four majors. She beat Sonay Kartal, Elena Rybakina and Maria Sakkari en route to the quarterfinals.

With minimal odds to go deep into the competition before it started, Moyuka Uchijima began the Madrid Open on a clean slate. An upset win over Ons Jabeur in Round-2 kick-started her dream run at La Caja Magica, and she hasn’t looked back since. Having taken tips from veteran Kei Nishikori this week, there is no surprise that Uchijima is well on her way to becoming Japan’s next big thing. The World No. 56 beat Montgomery, Jabeur, Pegula and Alexandrova to book her spot in the last eight.

Elina Svitolina vs Moyuka Uchijima Head to Head Record

Elina Svitolina has a 1-0 record against Moyuka Uchijima so far. The Madrid Open quarterfinal will be the second meeting between the two players, as well as the second on outdoor clay.

In their one and only face-off, Svitolina and Uchijima met on the hallowed red dirt of the Roland Garros courts. However, it wasn’t at the clay court major; they battled it out in the 2024 Paris Olympics Round of 64. Svitolina dominated her Japanese counterpart on the day.

Elina Svitolina vs Moyuka Uchijima Madrid Open 2025 Prediction

Beating Uchijima in Madrid this year seems to be a near impossible task for the playing field. The 23-year-old is serving brilliantly, and backing it up with brilliant execution of groundstrokes. She has been taking the ball early and unsettling her opposition. However, Svitolina is a maestro when it comes to absorbing pressure and digging deep to find another level of intensity.

Prediction: Elina Svitolina in straight sets.
