Paris Saint-Germain carved out a narrow 0-1 win over Arsenal in a thrilling UEFA Champions League semi-final first leg at the Emirates Stadium. They are now taking a crucial advantage back to France. The match certainly lived up to the expectations, with both sides showcasing high-tempo attacking football.

Arsenal, backed by a fervent home crowd, dominated large spells. However, they were punished for several missed chances by a clinical PSG side. Their standout individual performances and tactical duels throughout impressed. The first leg offered plenty of talking points ahead of next week’s return fixture in Paris.

PSG Take Slender but Important Lead

Even though PSG were outplayed for most parts of the match, they made the most of their chances. They took a chance in very early minutes into the game and Ousmane Dembele brilliantly converter the chance to get the lead. They tried to increase the lead throughout the rest of the game.

However, the scoreline remained the same 0-1 till the end of the game. The Ligue 1 champions showed resilience in defense too while capitalising on moments of weakness in Arsenal’s backline. Their counter-attacking play proved effective, and the crucial goal gave them a slight edge heading into the UCL return leg at Parc des Princes.

Dembele and Donnarumma Brilliance

Ousmane Dembele’s electric pace and dribbling were a constant threat to the Arsenal defense. His goal was the only one in the match as it gave PSG the much-needed lead. His individual skill and composure was certainly key to PSG’s narrow but important win.

On the other end, Gianluigi Donnarumma delivered a man-of-the-match level of performance. The Italian goalkeeper made several world-class saves. Especially in the second half, he denied Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli to keep PSG in front. If it wasn’t for the goalkeeper, Arsenal could’ve easily taken the lead in this match.

Arsenal Dominance Evident

Despite the loss, Arsenal can take plenty of positives from their display. Barring the first 30 minutes or so, the Gunners controlled possession for the most part of the rest of the game. They also created a lot of scoring opportunities which it successfully converted, could’ve given the Gunners and easy lead.

Declan Rice’s midfield command and Saka’s sharp wing play stood out. Martinelli’s efforts were visible but Thomas Partey’s absence was heavily felt. Thankfully for Arsenal, Partey should be back for the return leg. Mikel Arteta’s men will feel confident heading to Paris, knowing that a similar performance could swing the tie in their favor.
