Two points on the line in the opening clash of Day-2.
World No. 3 Alexander Zverev will look to extend Team Europe’s lead at the 2025 Laver Cup, as he faces Alex de Minaur of Team World to kick off Day-2. While the German is a Laver Cup veteran and has won the most points for his side over the years, de Minaur is no walkover. It is set to be the 11th career meeting between these two stars, with two points up for grabs. Let’s take a look at the match preview, predictions and BetMGM’s best bets for this contest.
Both Zverev and de Minaur did not feature on Day-1, meaning that they will be functioning on fresh legs. On paper, the German powerhouse is the clear favorite to earn Team Europe two valuable points. However, the ongoing season has not played out how he would’ve liked. Zverev has won just one title so far, and has an underwhelming 72% success rate. He started the year by reaching the Australian Open final, before drifting off. After winning the BMW Open in Munich, the 28-year-old reached the final in Stuttgart and semfinals in Halle, Toronto and Cincinnati.

The Laver Cup 2025 battle will be the first meeting between Zverev and de Minaur this year. The Australian has also made one championship run this year – at the Citi DC Open in Washington. Currently ranked No. 8 in the world, he has a win-loss record of 42-17 so far. Prior to this year’s event, the Australian has made one appearance at the Laver Cup (in 2022). He played two matches, winning one of them and earning Team World a single point. The 26-year-old reached the quarterfinal stage at the 2025 US Open, but is yet to move past the last eight at a major.

An interesting point to note is that de Minaur’s two wins over Zverev have come in team competitions. The Australian tends to thrive under pressure, and with extra backing from his teammates. Saturday will present a similar opportunity for the 26-year-old – he will be hoping to level the tie by earning two points for Team World. While Sascha will rely on his serve and flat groundstrokes, de Minaur can frustrate him with his impeccable court coverage and demonic counter-punch skills.
Prediction: Alex de Minaur in three sets.
Zverev is the favorite and de Minaur is the underdog for the Match-5 of the Laver Cup 2025. According to the implied probability on the money line, he has the edge to earn a straight sets win. Take a look at the odds for the match result (as per BetMGM):
