Seeded 7th in Shanghai this week, Alex de Minaur is certainly an outside favorite to reach the final. The 26-year-old Australian is a seasoned pro on the hard courts, and knows how to dominate the tour with his counter-attacking style of play. Having started the season as a quarterfinalist in Melbourne Park and a runner-up finish in Rotterdam, de Minaur proved his versatility by reaching a semifinal and quarterfinal each on clay. After picking up his maiden title of 2025 at Washington DC, he is solidifying his hard court threat. Alex de Minaur has won 86% service games this year.

The Pole is ranked No. 66 in the world at the moment – five spots below his career-high ranking. A 29-year-old from Piotrków, Majchrzak has beaten Ethan Quinn and Brandon Nakashima to reach the third round. Earlier this year, he made a supremely promising semifinal entry at the Grand Prix Hassan II, before reaching his maiden Grand Slam Round of 16 at Wimbledon 2025.

Alex de Minaur has a superior 1-0 record in the head-to-head against Kamil Majchrzak.
At the 2022 Australian Open, de Minaur and Majchrzak clashed in a one-sided Round of 64 encounter. The home favorite put on a masterclass in front of his fans, and ensured that the Polish star had no chance of making a comeback. As a result, the Shanghai Round of 32 will be their second meeting on an outdoor hard court.

Alex de Minaur is operating at a very high level this year – the Aussie has won 73% of his matches. He also won 87% first serve points in his opener on Saturday, which sends ominous signs to Majchrzak. The Pole will be hoping to capitalize by keeping the points short, and de Minaur’s poor break point conversion rate of 33% will add some pressure to this battle. If the rally length gets extended, the Australian is likely to emerge victorious.
Prediction: Alex de Minaur in straight sets.
