A Total Embarrassment: Jamie Vardy Apologises for Leicester’s Relegation

Abhinav Goel

In the aftermath of Leicester City’s relegation from the Premier League, club captain Jamie Vardy didn’t hold back.

Leicester City’s narrow 1-0 defeat to Liverpool on Sunday confirmed their relegation from the Premier League. Trent Alexander-Arnold’s second-half strike sealed Leicester’s second relegation in three seasons. For Leicester, it has been a disastrous campaign following last season’s Championship success.

With two managerial changes, only four league victories throughout the season and no home league goals for almost five months, the warning signs were always there. Having managed just one win since December, the drop felt inevitable for the Foxes. Club captain Jamie Vardy now finds himself at the centre of one of the club’s darkest periods.

This Season Has Been Nothing but Miserable: Jamie Vardy

In the aftermath of Leicester City’s relegation from the Premier League, Vardy didn’t hold back. The striker called the season “miserable” and a “total embarrassment.” Vardy, who battled tirelessly all season in an effort to keep Leicester in the Premier League, took to social media to share a heartfelt message.

“No words I have can ever express my feelings of anger and sadness with the way this season has gone. There are no excuses,” Vardy wrote on social media.

“Having been at this club for so long, we’ve experienced so many highs and successes – and this season has been nothing but miserable and for me personally, a total embarrassment. It hurts, and I know you’re feeling it too.

“To the fans: I’m sorry. Sorry we haven’t performed.”

Currently sitting 19th in the Premier League table, Leicester have managed just 18 points from 33 games. The appointment of Ruud van Nistelrooy as manager in November failed to spark a turnaround for the Foxes. Vardy has been one of the few bright spots in a bleak campaign for Leicester City as he managed to score seven league goals despite the team’s overall struggles.
