Max Verstappen reiterates his confidence in Sergio Perez's talent
The latest story surrounding Cadillac F1 driver seat is revolving around Sergio Perez. It is being reported that Checo is going to sign with the newest sign after Hungarian GP. Earlier on, Checo Perez a lot of support from his former teammates and the people he worked with. Jonathan Wheatley was the first to vouch for Checo and his return to the Formula 1 grid next year.
Max Verstappen has joined the list of people voting for Perez. Verstappen and Checo Perez were together at Red Bull Racing for four years. In his first year at the Bulls, Checo proved a valuable teammate and helped Verstappen earn his first driver’s title. Sergio Perez’s performance went down considerably in the upcoming seasons. However, his former teammate still believes in Checo’s raw pace and ability to bring the team a lot of benefits.
It is no mystery that Max Verstappen publicly accepts how Checo has helped him as a teammate. During the 2021 season, Max Verstappen did not shy away from calling him a “legend”. There was some friction between the pair in 2023 and 2024 but it has affected their overall bond.
Max Verstappen quotes Checo’s work with the teams he has raced in. According to Verstappen, it should be enough for the proof that Sergio Perez has the ability to turn things around with his talent.
PF1 understands a decision has yet to be taken on Cadillac's F1 2026 line-up, but Zhou Guanyu, Valtteri Bottas and Sergio Perez have all been linked with a seat.

Who do you think should join the team? 🤔 pic.twitter.com/wX58ih04tA
“Checo has always been very strong. Of course, he had some difficult moments with us, but as long as he has the motivation to race, I think he is a very good choice, especially for a new team. If you look at his performances at Force India and Racing Point, you will see that he always scored good points there.”
Max Verstappen’s words take us back to the years Checo raced in Formula 1. He was able to stabilise the second seat of Red Bull Racing and bring in a consistent point haul for the majority of the races. At Racing Point, Sergio Perez was a complete beast compared to his teammate.
It seems that the entire paddock is rooting for the Mexican’s return to Formula 1. Checo Perez’s seat may not be confirmed by Cadillac F1 yet, but the positive reviews coming in from every direction will surely help his cause.
nhl I work as a Writer at The Playoffs specialising in NHL, Formula 1 and Motorsports. I got into online journalism a couple of years ago. I used to be an intern for a website managing their Formula 1 content and then I served an entire year as a contractual writer.
Read moreFor me, online journalism was not something I expected. I am a Mechanical Engineer aiming to join Formula 1. At the same time, I am a poet, writer and my university’s Literary Club Lead. One day the dots connected together and I realised I could use my writing skills to convey my passion for Motorsports.
The biggest aspects I love about my role are- Scuderia Ferrari and Sebastian Vettel. When I am not fawning over them I like to convey my opinions to the public, in a manner which helps them gain a new point of view. I love helping people explore new ideas about Motorsports and obviously get recognised as a writer all over the world.
Message to Readers: I promise you one day you’ll see me managing operations on track with a Formula 1 team ; )
