Zak Brown is hoping that his two drivers are going to battle for the championship title cleanly until the end of the season.
Zak Brown is witnessing the revival of McLaren as their CEO in Formula 1 racing. For a long time, McLaren F1 were among the struggling teams of Formula 1. They hardly won a podium or two in the championships in the previous seasons. However, it all changed with the arrival of the 2023 season. With their new driver pairing, McLaren F1 were pushing hard to compete against the front-runners.
In 2024, McLaren F1 were able to win the constructor’s title once again thanks to Oscar and Lando’s multiple victories during the season. In the current season, the Papaya cars are dominating the 2025 championships. They are already clear of their competitors in the constructor championships. Whereas, the top-2 spots in the driver championships are currently held by their drivers. Almost every race, two McLaren drivers end up on the podium.
The team are visiting Goodwood for the Festival of Speed. McLaren boss, Zak Brown was also present at the event with his team. When he was approached by Sky F1 about the championship battle, Brown had a straightforward answer. Zak Brown’s words are a proof of the fact that the team is still not trying to prioritise one driver over another in the championship battle.
Here’s what Zak Brown had to say about his two drivers-
“We’re letting them go. It’s up to them to decide who wins the world championship. I hope it’s one of the two. We still need to extend our lead a little bit more before we get comfortable, but you never get comfortable in this sport. And just let them keep racing, that Austria was a great demonstration of how hard they can race each other and cleanly.”

Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris have been a well behaved duo throughout their time at McLaren F1. The pair have only collided once during their championship battle at the Canadian Grand Prix. However, there were no hard feelings between the two as Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri immediately made it up to each other.
The previous weekend in Britain saw Piastri asking the lead back from Lando Norris but he ultimately understood that it was the fault of his 10s penalty and not his teammate. The championships battle heats up exponentially when a team has two drivers who can win any race you throw at them.
As of July 2025, Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris are displaying the perfect teamwork and competition. But will this healthy relationship end up transforming into a hard and toxic battle for the title? We hope that Piastri-Norris title fight doesn’t end up like Hamilton-Rosberg title fight.
nhl I work as a Writer at The Playoffs specialising in NHL, Formula 1 and Motorsports. I got into online journalism a couple of years ago. I used to be an intern for a website managing their Formula 1 content and then I served an entire year as a contractual writer.
Read moreFor me, online journalism was not something I expected. I am a Mechanical Engineer aiming to join Formula 1. At the same time, I am a poet, writer and my university’s Literary Club Lead. One day the dots connected together and I realised I could use my writing skills to convey my passion for Motorsports.
The biggest aspects I love about my role are- Scuderia Ferrari and Sebastian Vettel. When I am not fawning over them I like to convey my opinions to the public, in a manner which helps them gain a new point of view. I love helping people explore new ideas about Motorsports and obviously get recognised as a writer all over the world.
Message to Readers: I promise you one day you’ll see me managing operations on track with a Formula 1 team ; )
