Know more about the best team principals in the history of Formula 1 racing.
Formula 1 is a team sport. There are two drivers racing against the grid and each other in the same team. Any Formula 1 team has hundreds of people working together and trying to build the best car. That’s where a team principal comes in. They are the head of the Formula 1 team. An F1 team principal oversees operations on track and during race weekends for the drivers. Furthermore, they also collaborate with the factory to create the necessary upgrades according to input from the drivers.
Formula 1 has seen a lot of team principals, who attained great success in the sport. Some of the team principals have gone forward to win multiple championships during each era of Formula 1. The team principal in Formula 1 has to handle both driver’s and constructor’s championships during a racing season. Additionally, some team principals are also the CEO of their respective Formula 1 teams. Former team principal, Christian Horner, and current Mercedes team principal, Toto Wolff are one example.
In Formula 1, Christian Horner has been celebrity figure for the past 20 years. He led his team to complete dominance during the 2009-2013 era and again in 2022-2024. As a team principal he has won multiple titles in both driver and constructor championships. However, Horner is still not the best team principal in the history of Formula 1.
On the 2025 Formula 1 grid, Christian Horner was the best team principal. He has 124 wins to his name leading Red Bull Racing in Formula 1 as of July 2025. He is followed by Toto Wolff who has led Mercedes to 120 wins as of July 2025. Although, as a matter of fact, it should be noted that the current Formula 1 championships hosts considerably more races every year compared to the past era.

nhl I work as a Writer at The Playoffs specialising in NHL, Formula 1 and Motorsports. I got into online journalism a couple of years ago. I used to be an intern for a website managing their Formula 1 content and then I served an entire year as a contractual writer.
Read moreFor me, online journalism was not something I expected. I am a Mechanical Engineer aiming to join Formula 1. At the same time, I am a poet, writer and my university’s Literary Club Lead. One day the dots connected together and I realised I could use my writing skills to convey my passion for Motorsports.
The biggest aspects I love about my role are- Scuderia Ferrari and Sebastian Vettel. When I am not fawning over them I like to convey my opinions to the public, in a manner which helps them gain a new point of view. I love helping people explore new ideas about Motorsports and obviously get recognised as a writer all over the world.
Message to Readers: I promise you one day you’ll see me managing operations on track with a Formula 1 team ; )
