Before becoming one of the most promising names in the bantamweight division, Payton Talbott was a psychology major with a minor in music at the University of Nevada, curious about the healing power of music therapy. But somewhere between lecture halls and lab notes, the then teenager Talbott found his calling inside the cage.

Talbott began training at the Reno Academy of Combat in 2017 and made his amateur debut shortly after. He went undefeated at 5-0, building a reputation on the regional circuit before turning professional in 2021. His first pro fight ended in a TKO victory over Abdikabyl Kaldar, and he never looked back.

His big break came in August 2023 on Dana White’s Contender Series 57, where a standout performance earned him a UFC contract. He officially stepped onto the UFC’s Octagon in November at UFC Fight Night 232, submitting Nick Aguirre with a rear-naked choke.

Initially considering a career in clinical psychology, he later shifted his academic focus to neuroscience, all while quietly building a fight career on the side. It wasn’t until he went 2-0 professionally that he truly committed to life as a mixed martial artist.

His most recent victory came at UFC 303 in June 2024, where he stopped Yanis Ghemmouri in dominant fashion. The lone blemish on his record came earlier that year at UFC 311, where he dropped a unanimous decision to seasoned contender Raoni Barcelos.
