Ilia Topuria, once the UFC Featherweight Champion and now ranked No. 3 in both the featherweight and pound-for-pound standings, has carved a unique path in MMA history. Born in Halle Westfalen, Germany, and proudly representing his Georgian-Abkhazian heritage, Topuria became the first fighter from his ethnicity to capture a UFC championship.

“El Matador” began his professional career in 2015, fighting in regional circuits. His debut came against Francisco Javier Asprilla, a fight that set the tone for a perfect run. In the near-decade since, Topuria has built a flawless 16-0 record. He entered the UFC in 2020 with a debut win at UFC Fight Night 179, via decision over Youssef Zalal.

His most recent bout, a highlight-reel knockout of Max Holloway at UFC 308 in October 2024, marked a successful featherweight title defense. But true to form, Topuria didn’t stop there. He vacated the belt later, announcing his move to the lightweight division. Tonight, at UFC 317: Topuria vs. Oliveira, he takes on former lightweight champion Charles Oliveira with the UFC Lightweight Championship on the line.

Ilia Topuria’s girlfriend is Giorgina Uzcategui Badell, though he prefers to keep his personal life out of the spotlight. Professionally, Badell is an entrepreneur and according to her LinkedIn profile, she has been serving as CEO of Future & Energy since April 2022. Prior to that, she worked as a licensed real estate agent with Douglas Elliman Real Estate, having joined the firm in 2020.
