Formula 1 gets it's newest podium finisher in young Kimi Antonelli
Kimi Antonelli finally shone at the podium at the 2025 Canadian GP. Antonelli is the best performing rookie of the 2025 season. He is turning heads at every track since his debut in Australia. A P4 finish in his first race was merely a hint of his actual talent.
As the season is progressing Kimi Antonelli is progressing faster than any other rookie. His podium finish in Canada is nothing short of a wonder. In races where even the veterans failed, Kimi Antonelli stood his ground racing calmly. He is the youngest driver on the grid currently and he is already looking at the top-step of Formula 1.
Kimi Antonelli had a record to his name long before his first podium. He became the youngest pole sitter in Formula 1 at Miami GP Sprint race. Since then, Antonelli is refusing to look back. The young Italian did face some hiccups in the previous races. He had a DNF due to a power unit issue.
But as soon as the Canadian GP weekend came, Antonelli looked set for brilliance. He was among the fastest driver in practice sessions. Not a big deal, right? Antonelli qualified in P4 right beside Oscar Piastri. Too bad, the veterans would overtake him, right?

As soon as the lights went out, he soared out from P4 and attacked Oscar Piastri. The Aussie was fighting for a championship and did not want unnecessary risks. Taking advantage of the situation, Antonelli slipped past Oscar and set himself up for a podium. From there on, he became the wingman for George Russell. Antonelli kept putting pressure on Max while efficiently managing his own race.

Tbe Mercedes pit wall was spot on this weekend. Their strategy helped Antonelli get ahead of tbe other drivers without losing time in pitstops. This way, the Italian hero was back into podium place by the end of the race. To Antonelli’s advantage a late race safety car was the cherry on top. Kimi Antonelli could safely finish the race in P3 without having to handle four laps of pressure from Oscar Piastri.
As a result of his valiant drive in Canada, Kimi Antonelli is the third youngest podium finish of Formula 1.
nhl I work as a Writer at The Playoffs specialising in NHL, Formula 1 and Motorsports. I got into online journalism a couple of years ago. I used to be an intern for a website managing their Formula 1 content and then I served an entire year as a contractual writer.
Read moreFor me, online journalism was not something I expected. I am a Mechanical Engineer aiming to join Formula 1. At the same time, I am a poet, writer and my university’s Literary Club Lead. One day the dots connected together and I realised I could use my writing skills to convey my passion for Motorsports.
The biggest aspects I love about my role are- Scuderia Ferrari and Sebastian Vettel. When I am not fawning over them I like to convey my opinions to the public, in a manner which helps them gain a new point of view. I love helping people explore new ideas about Motorsports and obviously get recognised as a writer all over the world.
Message to Readers: I promise you one day you’ll see me managing operations on track with a Formula 1 team ; )
