Bez Mbeng
Bez Mbeng, born on May 2, 2003, is an American basketball player from Olney, Maryland. Standing 6 feet 4 inches (1.93 m) tall and weighing 185 pounds (84 kg), he plays as a shooting guard.
Mbeng attended Our Lady of Good Counsel High School, where he was coached by GJ Kissal. During his freshman year, he earned a spot on the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference first team. Despite receiving multiple scholarship offers, Mbeng committed to play college basketball at Yale over Harvard.
Mbeng’s collegiate career with the Yale Bulldogs spanned from 2021 to 2025. As a freshman, he primarily came off the bench. In his sophomore year, he averaged 10.4 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 3.2 assists per game, earning him the Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year title. He continued to impress as a junior, averaging 11.1 points, 4.2 rebounds, 4.1 assists, and 1.9 steals per game. His senior year was particularly notable, as he was named Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year and Ivy League Player of the Year for the 2024-25 season. He also received First Team All-Ivy selection. Throughout his college career, Mbeng set a school record with 195 career steals. He also recorded two double-doubles, including a 13-point, 11-rebound performance in the Ivy League Tournament championship game against Princeton. Other career highlights include being a Second Team All-Ivy League player in 2024 and a three-time Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year from 2023 to 2025.
In the 2025 NBA draft, Bez Mbeng was not selected. After the draft, news broke on October 17, 2025, that the Heat added Mbeng to their training camp roster, as reported by Anthony Chiang of the Miami Herald. However, his stint with the Heat was short-lived, as he was waived on Friday, October 18, 2025. Mbeng was on an “Exhibit 10” contract and did not make any on-court appearances for Miami during the preseason. He is expected to most likely go to the Heat’s G League affiliate as a free agent.
