The wait is nearly over for football’s most prestigious individual prizes, as the Ballon d’Or 2025 ceremony takes place on Monday at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris. The world’s best male and female players will be crowned, along with several other award winners in a star-studded evening.
This year’s edition marks a milestone, with equal recognition for men’s and women’s categories for the first time in Ballon d’Or history. In addition to the biggest prize, awards will also be handed out for Best Young Player, Best Goalkeeper (Yashin Trophy), Top Scorer (Gerd Müller Trophy), Coach of the Year, and Club of the Year. In addition, a new humanitarian award, the Socrates award, will also be given out. The Socrates award will recognizes a footballer for their humanitarian and social initiatives off the pitch.
Following a dramatic 2024 edition, when Manchester City’s Rodri lifted the men’s award and Real Madrid’s Vinícius Jr. made headlines by skipping the ceremony, expectations are even higher this year. With new names emerging, the 2025 Ballon d’Or promises one of the most competitive fields in recent memory.
