Bruno Fernandes Hits Huge Milestone in Manchester United Win Against Chelsea

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes etched his name into the club’s history books during their tense and dramatic 2-1 Premier League win against Chelsea at Old Trafford. The Portuguese playmaker opened the scoring in a dramatic first half.

He also celebrated a landmark achievement with that goal which places him among Man United’s elites. Fernandes struck early, steering Patrick Dorgu’s header into the net after Robert Sanchez’s dismissal had reduced Chelsea to 10 men within five minutes into the match.

The goal sparked a lengthy VAR check for offside before it was allowed to stand. For Fernandes, it was no ordinary strike. It was the midfielder’s 100th goal for Manchester United. He also achieved this milestone during his 200th Premier League appearance.

Since joining from Sporting CP in January 2020, Fernandes has been a pivotal figure in the Red Devils’ squad. Saturday’s effort marked his 64th goal in the English top flight. Meanwhile, his overall tally also includes contributions in Europe and domestic cups. He also has 86 assists to his name.

Evidently, he continues to be United’s most consistent creative force. After the match, Fernandes told Sky Sports, “Every goal is important. It doesn’t matter the moment. It’s a big moment for me to reach that milestone for a massive club, I won’t hide from that. If I can get more goals to help the team, that’s what matters the most.”

Bruno Fernandes Reaches Milestones Leadership Under Pressure

Fernandes becomes only the 23rd player in United’s history to hit triple figures in goals. He just surpassed Bryan Robson and drew level with Joe Cassidy and George Wall in the club’s all-time charts. His 296 appearances so far for United reflect both consistency and endurance.

Fernandes’ another personal landmark of 300 games is just around the corner. Manager Ruben Amorim praised his skipper’s contribution after the match. He praised both the goal and the leadership displayed in a must-win fixture. Following the match, the coach told Sky Sports News:

“He has a great spirit, he is our captain and he scored a goal playing as a midfielder so I am really happy about that.” Though Casemiro’s sending off complicated matters, Fernandes’ opener gave United the platform to secure three vital points. The result not only lifted pressure on Amorim but also reaffirmed Fernandes’ status in the team.
