Paul weighed in at 199.5 pounds for his last fight, while Davis (30-0-1) tipped the scales at just 133.5 pounds in his previous bout. That’s a difference of more than 65 pounds! Thompson and his fellow commissioners weren’t about to approve a rule waiver that would allow such a lopsided matchup to happen in their state.

Most Valuable Promotions, Paul’s company, had requested special permission to bend Georgia’s weight difference rules. They needed three out of five commissioners to vote yes, but Thompson made it clear that wasn’t happening. The commission was set to meet and formally reject the request, but Paul’s team pulled out before facing that embarrassment.

Miami Becomes The New Backup Plan

When Plan A falls apart, influencer boxing always has a Plan B. Paul’s team quickly announced they were moving the Jake Paul vs Gervonta Davis fight from Atlanta’s State Farm Arena to Miami’s Kaseya Center.
