Heartfelt Gestures Followed PSG’s Champions League Win As Luis Enrique and Supporters Honored His Daughter Xana.

Luis Enrique’s coaching career reached a historic peak on Saturday as he guided PSG to a stunning 5-0 win over Inter Milan. That win in the 2024-25 UEFA Champions League final helped him create history on many fronts. He even became only the second coach in history to win the treble with two different clubs.

While the night was about basking in the glory, it was also deeply emotional for the Spanish manager. Amid celebrations at the Allianz Arena, Luis Enrique made sure to honour his late daughter Xana, who passed away in 2019. His personal tribute was followed by one from the PSG supporters. The beautiful gestures added a layer of poignancy to the club’s biggest night.

How Did Luis Enrique Honour Xana?

After the final whistle in Munich, Luis Enrique was seen running away to quickly change his shirt. The new t-shirt featured an illustration of Xana holding a PSG flag. This mirrored an iconic moment of her from Lucho’s 2015 Champions League final win. That day, she planted a Barcelona flag on the turf after her father’s first UCL win.

This time, in that illustration, changing the flag, she was seen planting a PSG flag. Before the final, Enrique had said, “I hope to be able to do the same with PSG. My daughter won’t be there physically, but she will be there spiritually.” He made sure to bring her with him the best possible way he knew.

In a heartfelt gesture, PSG supporters unveiled a massive tifo inside the Allianz Arena, depicting the exact image of Luis Enrique and Xana celebrating Barcelona’s 2015 win. Similar to the coach’s t-shirt, the picture on the banner was also updated with Luchi holding a PSG banner. Meanwhile Xana was seen wearing a PSG jersey.

The tribute reflected deep admiration for their coach and his emotional journey. Despite witnessing PSG lift their first-ever Champions League trophy, fans took a moment to honour Xana’s memory. This didn’t only make the night historic but also deeply emotional for more than one reason.

What Happened to Luis Enrique’s Daughter Xana?

Xana, Luis Enrique’s daughter, tragically passed away in August 2019 at the age of nine. She fought a brave battle for five months with osteosarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer. Following her extremely unfortunate untimely demise, her family announced the news in a statement through the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF):

“Our daughter Xana passed away this afternoon at the age of nine years old after fighting an osteosarcoma for five intense months… You will be the star that guides our family.”

Years may have gone by but Enrique continues to cherish her memory. In a 2024 documentary, he said, “My daughter came to live with us for nine wonderful years… She isn’t in the physical [sense] but she is in the spiritual [sense] because every day, we talk about her, we laugh and remember because I think Xana still sees us.”
