Monaco GP 2025: Lewis Hamilton Gets Grid Penalty for Race!

The Monaco GP Qualifying session was underway in the principality of Monte Carlo. Ferrari was quite strong throughout Friday and Saturday. Their newfound pace was visible during the qualifying session. Charles Leclerc was setting the best times in every sector as the qualifying progressed.

His teammate, Lewis Hamilton, was not far behind. Hamilton overtook several cars in Imola to bring Ferrari in P4. Hamilton was able to keep up the same performance as he went P4 in qualifying. The Briton was set to start his race from the second row. However, things went south post-qualifying after he was hit with a penalty.

Ferrari’s Mistake Leads to Penalty for Lewis Hamilton

Ferrari and Hamilton’s radio has been hot topic for the 2025 season. Lewis seems to be at odds with his new team quite often over the radio. The Monaco GP Qualifying session was an example of another banter between the two.

Ferrari’s pit wall was caught off guard with Verstappen behind Hamilton in the final session of qualifying. They misinformed Lewis Hamilton that Max Verstappen’s car was slowing down. Lewis went on with his lap without giving way to Verstappen. Due to their negligence, Hamilton ended up impending Max Verstappen’s lap. Verstappen rightfully frustrated, called out Lewis for impending his lap. Stewards have handed a three place grid penalty for Lewis Hamilton during the Monaco GP.

Ferrari and Lewis Hamilton fans did not like this mistake at all. They were furious at the pit wall for ruining a good session for Hamilton. The importance of grid position in Monaco is no joke. With a new disadvantage, a potential podium is now out of reach for Lewis Hamilton. Ferrari will have to take risks today in order to salvage his race.

Did Ferrari Commit a Big Mistake?

Yes, in all circumstances Ferrari have successfully made things worse. Last year, their lead driver was able to win the race with Sainz helping him. Charles is starting on the front row again in 2025.

Only this time, he will be fighting alone against three teams during the race. The mistake from Ferrari has cost them a potential podium and race win. Lewis Hamilton will be stuck in traffic while his car definitely has the pace for the front row.
