Caitlin Clark Calls Out Officials For Delayed Review Plays, Interrupting Flow of Game

Clark dropped 27 points, five rebounds, and 11 assists during Fever's 91-90 loss to Dream.

Indiana Fever superstar Caitlin Clark called out officials after their one-point 91-90 loss to the Atlanta Dream on Tuesday. Clark expressed her unhappiness with the way the game was officiated, where the referees missed three calls in the first half, leading to challenges by the head coaches of both the teams. Following the replays, all three initial calls were overturned.

After the game, Clark questioned the officials and conveyed her frustration with the referees. She said that it took for the officials to review the calls, which ultimately led to affecting the flow of the game. Not only this, but she also said that Fever’s head coach, Stephanie White, could have saved the challenge for a more complicated call late in the game.

The 23-year-old said, “Yeah, challenges cannot take that long. It ruins the flow of the game. I get it. It’s early in the year. The refs want to make the right call.” She added, “We can’t sit there for 2 and a half, 3 minutes, on an obvious hit out of bounds off of them, and still not know the call…We’re just standing there. We’re waiting, and we’re waiting, and we’re waiting.”

Clark went on to say, “It’s tough when Coach White is put in a position to have to use both her challenges in the first half on calls that were pretty point blank, and then were left with none there in the second half.”

A Lot Of Positives But Also Lot of Things We Can Get Better At- Caitlin Clark After First Loss of 2025 Season

Clark, who is in sophomore year, had a historical night as the Fever suffered a narrow loss to the Atlanta Dream. The former Iowa star surpassed Sabrina Ionescu for most games with 25+ points and 10+ assists. Clark dropped 27 points, five rebounds, and 11 assists to achieve the feat. Despite her remarkable performance, the Fever fell short and suffered the first loss of the season.

Following the defeat, Clark reflected upon the same and said while there are a lot of positive aspects, they have got some to get better at. Speaking about the loss, she said, “Yes, this stinks. We wanted to win this game, but this is great for our team. A little adversity – how are we going to respond? We have a chance to go there and play them. We can get a little redemption if we go down there and play well.”

She added, “The great thing about this league is you have a day, then you play again. So, nothing to get too worked up about. A lot of positives, but also a lot of things we can we can really get better at.” Notably, the Fever will again play Dream as they visit State Farm Arena on Thursday, May 22.
