‘Both Of Them Looked Slow’ – Ian Garry Goes Off On Jack Della Maddalena And Belal Muhammad For Being Sloppy At UFC 315

Recently, the UFC welterweight division got a new champion when Australia’s Jack Della Maddalena upset Belal Muhammad at UFC 315 to claim the throne. But not everyone was impressed with what they saw that night, especially not rising contender Ian Machado Garry.

The always outspoken Irishman has built quite a reputation in the UFC. Known for his flashy personality, Garry has climbed the welterweight ranks with impressive wins. His professional record of 16-1 (only loss to Shavkat Rakhmonov) mirrors his confidence level, which seems to grow with each victory. Now with his sights set on championship gold, Garry isn’t holding back his thoughts on the division’s current elite.

Ian Garry Claims Both The Fighters Looked Slow

Speaking with veteran MMA journalist Ariel Helwani, Ian Machado Garry didn’t mince words when assessing the UFC 315 main event. He revealed that both the fighters lacked the speed and finesse that a championship bout should have.

“I watched it live, which means I’m watching it through my eyes, and I know fast I am, I know real time. I thought both of them looked slow from watching it with my own eyes.I think there were a lot of things Jack did that I thought were quite sloppy, but technically he was the better striker.”

The Irishman went on to admit that the fight looked better when he rewatched it on television, but maintained his critical stance. Garry’s assessment comes from a place of extreme self-confidence. He believes his speed advantage would be obvious if he were to face either fighter. But it wasn’t all criticism from the 27-year-old contender. He did acknowledge that Della Maddalena showed superior striking technique compared to Muhammad, which ultimately led to his championship victory.

While Garry found plenty to critique about the new champion’s performance, he also highlighted one aspect of Della Maddalena’s game that impressed him. “Every time Belal grabbed him and tried to lift, Jack just dropped to his knees. Beautiful.” He broke down how the Australian defended against Muhammad’s takedown attempts with textbook technique.

With Islam Makhachev moving up from lightweight to challenge for Della Maddalena’s newly acquired belt, the division is hotter than ever. Garry will likely need another impressive win to earn his shot at gold. But if there’s one thing that’s consistent about Ian Machado Garry, it’s his unwavering belief that he is the fastest, most skilled fighter in the division. Whether he’s right or just talking himself up remains to be seen!
