The Club World Cup Will Be Really Special: Ousmane Dembele

Abhinav Goel

Ahead of this summer’s tournament, Dembele sat down with FIFA to reflect on his incredible journey this season.

PSG attacker Ousmane Dembele has been enjoying the most prolific season of his career. With 33 goals and 13 assists in 47 matches across all competitions, the 28-year-old Frenchman has silenced the critics and rewritten the narrative around his fitness and consistency. His dazzling displays on the biggest stages, particularly in Europe, have been central to PSG’s success this term. He scored crucial goals against the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal, and also provided key assists over two legs against Aston Villa.

Dembele’s form has already been rewarded with individual accolades. He was named Ligue 1 Player of the Season and shared the league’s Golden Boot with Marseille’s Mason Greenwood, both finishing with 21 goals each. And yet, the season is far from over for PSG.

My Main Focus Is To Win Trophies With PSG: Dembele

As the season draws to a close, Dembele faces three monumental fixtures that could etch his name permanently into PSG folklore. Firstly, the French Cup final on May 24, the UEFA Champions League final on May 31, and the FIFA Club World Cup, which kicks off on June 14 in the United States.

Ahead of this summer’s tournament, Dembele sat down with FIFA to reflect on his incredible journey and share his excitement about competing on the world stage.

Dembele said,

“I think this [Club] World Cup will be really special, as it comes just before the World Cup for the national teams. The [Club] World Cup is going to be massive and we can’t wait to get there. We’re up against some great teams. We’ve got two matches in Los Angeles and another in Seattle. The whole team can’t wait, and I think it’s going to be great.”

When asked about how he feels about his improved performances this season, Dembele replied,

“As I often say, it’s really a team effort. The team make it much easier for me to score goals and provide assists. The more matches we play, the better we get, and I think my successful season is also down to the squad as a whole. I owe my current form to the team. My main focus is to win trophies with Paris Saint-Germain. Individual awards are just a bonus for me.”
