Paolo Banchero
Paolo Napoleon James Banchero was born on November 12, 2002, in Seattle, Washington, United States. He is an Italian-American basketball player who plays as a power forward. His basketball journey began early, and he showed promising talent from high school. Banchero attended O’Dea High School in Seattle, where he excelled in both basketball and American football, serving as a backup quarterback on the state championship team. In basketball, as a freshman, he averaged an impressive 14.1 points and 10.2 rebounds per game. During his adolescence, he experienced significant growth, going from 1.85 m to 1.96 m between seventh and eighth grade, which helped him be ranked among the top 50 eighth-graders in basketball and American football nationally. After a successful high school career, Banchero played college basketball for Duke University in the 2021-2022 season. In his freshman season, he averaged 17.2 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 3.2 assists per game. His exceptional performance earned him the ACC (Atlantic Coast Conference) Rookie of the Year awards and he was named to the All-ACC first team. He was also recognized as a McDonald’s All-American in 2021 and a consensus second-team All-American in 2022. On April 20, 2022, Paolo Banchero declared for the 2022 NBA Draft, foregoing his remaining college eligibility. He was selected as the first overall pick by the Orlando Magic, marking the beginning of his professional career in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Since entering the NBA, Banchero has continued to impress. He was named the NBA Rookie of the Year in 2023 and was included in the NBA All-Rookie First Team in the same year. In 2024, Banchero was selected for the NBA All-Star, solidifying his status as one of the league’s young stars. He currently wears jersey number 5 for the Orlando Magic and continues to be a fundamental piece for the team.
