Celtics vs. Magic Preview: Will Orlando Bounce Back or Boston Go Through Conference Semifinals?

Gulshan Sharma

Orlando Magic have lost each of their last five games at TD Garden.

The Boston Celtics will host the Orlando Magic in Game 5 of the first-round playoff series in the Eastern Conference. With a commanding 3-1 lead in the series, the defending champions are looking for their fourth straight conference semifinals.

On the other hand, the Magic would aim for a breakthrough in the series to push for Game 6, where they can tie the series. Let’s go through the previews for both teams, injury report and more ahead of Game 5.

Boston Celtics Preview

The Boston Celtics arrived at TD Garden with the mindset of wrapping up the series in five games. The 3-point shooting struggle would be a topic of discussion for Joe Muzzula, who is just one win away from claiming a second-round appearance for the seventh time in the last eight years. In Game 4, Boston held a four-point lead after three quarters, and the match would have gone out of their hands, but Magic allowed them to take control.

Contribution from the starters has been a big boost for the Celtics, and their home record in season 2024-25 makes them a superior home side. Boston are on a six-game winning streak at TD Garden and also beat Orlando three times in 2024-25.

Orlando Magic Preview

A narrow victory in Game 3 helped the Magic to fuel a spark in the series, but Jamahl Mosley’s men failed to replicate it in Game 4. Orlando has failed to cross the 100-point mark in three of their four playoff games, averaging 94.25 points per game so far. They have overcome the Celtics two times in the regular season and once in the playoffs in 2024-25, but couldn’t cross the line at TD Garden.

The Magic finished the regular season with the third-fewest points per game in the league, and their shooting struggle continued in the playoffs. Orlando has lost each of their last five games at TD Garden. The Magic produced some stunning comebacks in the regular season, and they need to deliver one of their best performances to take this series to a home matchup. Banchero and Wagner’s roles would be critical for a comeback win on Tuesday.

Celtics vs. Magic Injury Report

Boston Celtics

Boston Celtics’ key shooting guard, Jaylen Brown, has been listed as questionable for Tuesday’s injury report. After missing two straight games, Jrue Holiday (hamstring) has been sidelined again due to a hamstring injury.

Orlando Magic

With no fresh injury concerns, the Magic will have a healthy roster. Moritz Wagner (ACL) and Jalen Suggs (knee surgery) will be out for the entire season.
