Ian Machado Garry is back to his winning ways after defeating Carlos Prates at UFC Fight Night in Kansas City on April 26, 2025. Known as “The Future”, he had been on an undefeated streak until his first loss against Shavkat Rakhmonov on December 7, 2024.

The fight between Ian Machado Garry vs Carlos Prates lasted 5 rounds as per the UFC official site. Machado Garry was dominant for most of the fight. He kept his opponent off balance/ Machado Garry also prevented him from retaliation for the first 3 rounds as per the UFC official site. Carlos Prates started his own offence against Ian Machado Garry in the fourth round. He busted up his opponent, thereby winning the fourth round. Machado Garry had suffered cuts and bruises in this round.

However, “The Future” overcame any scares of an injury and prevented his opponent from taking him down in the fifth round and survived inside the Octagon. The end of the fight saw Ian Machado Garry take the “almost” flawless win against his opponent.

The UFC’s Fighting Nerds see one of their own lose badly

The Fighting Nerds are a Brazilian fighting team in the UFC. Team members include Caio Borralho, Jean Silva, Mauricio Ruffy and Carlos Prates. Notably, Carlos Prates had an undefeated streak in the UFC since he arrived as per his official UFC records page. However, all of that changed in his last fight.

Carlos Prates’ last opponent was Ian Machado Garry at UFC Fight Night on April 26, 2025. However, Machado Garry proved to be the better attacker for the first three rounds and Prates was ineffective. He only gained advantage in the fourth round. Moreover, Prates’ attempt at finishing off his Irish opponent in the fifth round also failed. Ian Machado Garry overcame it all and won the fight via unanimous decision. After the end of the fight, Carlos Prates revealed (via MMA Fighting)-

“Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to finish the fight and that wasn’t enough. Sorry family, I’ll come back stronger.”
