Alexander “The Great” Volkanovski is all set to clash with Diego Lopes to win the vacant UFC Featherweight Championship at UFC 314 on April 12, 2025. These two will highlight the main event card of the event, which has been named as UFC 314: Volkanovski vs Lopes. Notably, the UFC Featherweight Championship was last held by Ilia Topuria who vacated it. 

Alexander Volkanovski has been one of the veteran UFC MMA fighters while Diego Lopes has been one of the relative newcomers inside the Octagon. All eyes would be on whether the veteran bests the relative newcomer and wins the Championship or will the newcomer put the veteran in his place and become the Champion himself.

Hailing from Wingdang, New South Wales, Australia, Alexander Volkanovski has been one of the best Featherweight fighters in Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). Nicknamed “The Great”, his MMA journey started at promotions like Pacific Xtreme Combat and Australian Fighting Championship (AFC). His UFC debut happened at UFC Fight Night: Whittaker vs Brunson on November 26, 2015 against Yusuke Kasuya.

Alexander “The Great” Volkanovski has gone on to be the UFC Featherweight Champion six times since he joined the UFC. Notably, he ranks #1 in the UFC Featherweight Division and holds a record of 26-4-0 in his career.

Diego Lopes’ MMA Journey

Diego Lopes has established himself as one of the talented Featherweight MMA fighters in United Fighting Championship (UFC) despite being a relative composer. Currently ranked as #3 in the UFC Featherweight Division, he hails from Manaus, Amazonas, Brazil and gained his MMA experience at promotions like LUX Fight League among others.

Diego Lopes was also a part of Dana White’s Contender Series and signed with UFC IN 2021.Accordingly, he first appeared at an UFC event at UFC 288: Sterling vs Cejudo in a losing effort against Movsar Evloev on May 6, 2023. However, Diego Lopes has been on a winning streak since then beating five opponents straight. His MMA record stands at 26-6-0 so far.
