Daniel Cormier and Alexander Volkanovski go back and forth ahead of the UFC 314 title fight in Miam, Florida!
UFC fighters trash-talk, coaches get involved, and sometimes even commentators join the fray. Daniel Cormier, the former two-division champion turned commentator, has become known for his straightforward approach both inside and outside the octagon. His transition from fighter to broadcaster has been seamless, bringing his expertise and personality to UFC events worldwide. But even the most professional commentators sometimes have personal grievances to air.
Alexander Volkanovski, the former featherweight champion has been looking to reclaim his throne at UFC 314. With his incredible technical skills and fight IQ, Volkanovski has established himself as one of the greatest featherweights in UFC history. Now, as he prepares for perhaps the most important fight of his career, an unexpected accusation from Cormier has added some lighthearted drama to fight week.

During a recent media event, Daniel Cormier playfully called out Volkanovski for apparently ghosting him after a previous conversation. He revealed that Volkanovski had apparently blocked him and never got back to him about the cooking collab in Australia.
“You are one of the greatest champions of all time and sadly, you act like it. I have messages you so many times asking to cook because i went to Australia. First off i got green bubbles, so you must have me blocked. And then i messages him on Instagram.”
First check of the week and it’s with none other than the great Alexander Volkanovski. Today we talk about whether or not it’s over for the champ, what does winning the title again mean to him. I also get his thoughts on Illia versus Islam and so much more. Do not miss it live at… pic.twitter.com/ZiyQ7IqqMx

Volkanovski, known for his good humor as much as his fighting prowess, seemed genuinely surprised by the accusation. The Australian fighter even doubled down, suggesting they could make time during fight week. This exchange showcased the lighter side of these UFC personalities, reminding fans that behind the serious faces on broadcast, there are real friendships and interactions that often go unseen.
The conversation soon shifted to more serious topics when Cormier asked Volkanovski about his championship mindset. This question touched on Volkanovski’s impressive reign at featherweight, which included multiple title defenses before his knockout loss to Ilia Topuria earlier this year. This will be his 9th straight title fight. He also talked about “flipping on the switch” after his face off in the octagon against Ilia Topuria after the champion had knocked out Max Holloway.
Cormier also inquired about his mental health issues out of camp since the loss to Ilia Topuria (Volk had revealed that he felt lost outside of fight camp). To this, the former featherweight champion revealed that he did not stop training and was constantly in the gym, getting ready for a comeback. He further revealed that he had to mentally lock himself down to not ask for a fight while healing.
As UFC 314 approaches, this conversation between two of the sport’s most respected figures offered fans valuable insight into the mindset of the fighter. This fight is make or break for the Aussie legend, and he will fight tooth and nail for what he believes is rightfully his!
