Andrew Peeke leaves after a hit by Max Pacioretty; Mason Lohrei may step in if Peeke misses Thursday's game against the Flames.
The Boston Bruins revealed that defenseman Andrew Peeke would not come back for Tuesday’s match against the Toronto Maple Leafs. Peeke sustained an upper-body injury during Tuesday’s matchup against the Maple Leafs and will not be coming back to the game.
Andrew Peeke was struck by Max Pacioretty in the initial period and promptly headed to the dressing room. If Peeke is unable to participate in Thursday’s game against the Flames, Mason Lohrei is expected to be back in the lineup. Initially, Pacioretty was given a five-minute major penalty, but upon review, it was reversed and he was not penalized.
Following his acquisition from the Columbus Blue Jackets last season, the Boston Bruins were optimistic that Peeke would serve as a permanent option in the defensive lineup as part of the bottom pair.
26-year-old Andrew Peeke has recorded two assists in 12 games for the Bruins at the beginning of the 2024-25 season.
Last season at the trade deadline, Boston traded Jakub Zboril and a 2027 third-round draft pick to acquire Peeke. Peeke scored two points in 15 games for the Bruins and played in six Stanley Cup Playoff matches.
In his 245 career games over six seasons, the player from Parkland, Florida has accumulated 46 points, with his standout performance being a 15-point game in the 2021-22 season.
Prior to becoming a professional, Peeke spent a span of three years at the University of Notre Dame, securing the Big 10 championship in both 2018 and 2019. He was also part of the bronze-winning USA team at the 2018 World Juniors and played an important role in USA’s World Championship campaign in 2021.
Peeke will become an unrestricted free agent once the 2025-26 season is over. His AAV is currently $2.75 million.
After playing Toronto on Tuesday, the Bruins will prepare to play against the Calgary Flames on Thursday and the Ottawa Senators on Saturday.
