CB Christian Benford Has Agreed to a Contract Extension With the Buffalo Bills

Eric Divakaran

The Buffalo Bills have continued their offseason strategy of securing key players with long-term contracts, signing star cornerback Christian Benford to a four-year $76 million extension on Saturday. The deal is set to run through 2029, averages $29 million per annum, ranking Benford tied for 13th amongst NFL Cornerbacks in terms of pay.

He was drafted by the Bills as a sixth-round pick from Villanova in the 2022 NFL draft. Since then Benford has emerged as a steal, transitioning from a solid contributor to the team’s top cornerback by last season. His breakout season in 2024 has solidified him as the cornerstone for the Bills’ defense.

The Bills have continued to extend their key players and some of them include star QB Josh Allen, WR Khalil Shakir LB Terrel Bernard, and now Christian Benford, to name a few. While Allen was their biggest priority going into the offseason, the Bills also showed urgency to re-sign all of the key contributors before they hit the free agency after 2026. In the three seasons that he’s played in the NFL, Benford has 5 interceptions, 4 forced fumbles, 142 combined tackles, and 7 tackles for loss.

How Will Extending Benford Affect Bills’ Draft Choices?

The Bills’ decision to sign corner Benford back to a four-year extension through 2029 shifts their NFL draft strategy. Earlier, drafting a cornerback made a lot of sense for the Bills as Benford was unsigned long-term, but his new deal lessens the urgency to do so.

Despite resigning Benford, the need for a cost-effective long-term Corner is still around for the Bills, as they do not have much depth in that spot. Even though the Bills have Dane Jackson, he’s not exactly a quality replacement for Benford if he gets injured or fatigued. The Bills still have 30th pick in the first round of the draft and they have two more picks in the second round with 56th and 62nd. So this means that the Bills can still get a solid Corner from the 2025 NFL draft and add further depth to their roster.

I cover the National Football League and things cannot get better than that. I always dreamed to play football or basketball professionally since I’m built like a Running Back. But now that I can’t, since I’m technically in the “Unc” age, I thought why not pick a career in sports industry? So here I am, doing what I love, and hoping that the Commanders win the Super Bowl. I give love to players when it’s due, but can be critical about their performances at the same time. Enough about me, now let my articles do all the talking.
