Upon conclusion of the NFL Scouting Combine, teams have started preparing for the next big event of the offseason, i.e. the draft. The NFL draft, which will be held at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin, will get underway on Thursday, April 24.

The Kansas City Chiefs have been a dominant team in the recent past, having reached 3 consecutive Super Bowls and winning two of them in 2022 and 2023. The Chiefs lost to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX, but they still remain a force to reckon with. The problem with winning so much ever since they drafted Patrick Mahomes in 2017 is that Kansas City is always selecting in the final couple of spots every year.

This time also, the Chiefs’ first-round selection will be the number 31 pick overall. As a result, it has become difficult to put together a strong draft over the years, but like any other team, they also have plenty of roster moves to consider.

The Kansas City Chiefs will have 8 picks as per their current situation. The Chiefs will be selecting in rounds 1 and 2, following which they will have two picks in round 3, then one selection in round 4, and one final pick in round 7. As of now, Kansas City does not have any draft picks in rounds 5 and 6. Their first-round 3 pick is the one they received from the Tennessee Titans during their trade in 2024 involving cornerback L’Jarius Sneed.

Positional Needs for the Chiefs ahead of 2025 NFL Draft

As was evidenced quite clearly in the Super Bowl and the entire 2024 season for that matter, the number one priority for the Chiefs is to find a quality starting left tackle. The blindside of Patrick Mahomes was a nuisance all year long and although All-Pro guard Joe Thuney did his best in the latter stages of the regular season, he is still a guard at heart.

Moreover, Kansas City also has lost some quality players through free agency and trade on both sides of the ball. The Chiefs have franchise-tagged guard Trey Smith, but if the price is right, they may end up trading him as they did last year with cornerback L’Jarius Sneed.

Other positions Kansas City needs to focus on are the defensive line, as they are set to lose Charles Omenihu in free agency and Tershawn Wharton has signed with the Carolina Panthers. They also need to find a solid nickel corner. The Chiefs’ struggles when CB2 Jaylen Watson missed some games due to injury were evident and they need to add depth there.

Furthermore, the wide receiver room could use some depth with DeAndre Hopkins signing with the Ravens and Justin Watson signing with the Texans. Rashee Rice is bound to miss quite a few games due to suspension, leaving Xavier Worthy and Marquise Brown as the top pass catchers. And last, but not least, the running back room is also one that needs to be shored up.
