Lakers vs Clippers: Will Austin Reaves play tonight? Latest injury update on Lakers guard

The Los Angeles Lakers will face off against the Los Angeles Clippers in the second game of a back-to-back matchup on Sunday, March 2. In their previous meeting, the Lakers got better of their rivals 106-102 and recorded their fifth win in a row. Birthday boy Luka Doncic once again came up with a team leading performance of 31 points, two rebounds and five assists.

However, the Lakers’ win was marred by Austin Reaves’ injury, who was forced to walk out of the game with a niggle in just nine minutes of action. It was later revealed that the star guard was ruled out of the game due to right calf soreness and underwent an MRI.

Notably, in the game against the Clippers, the 26-year-old came up with six points with two-of-four three-pointers and one block. Previously, in the clash against the Timberwolves, he scored 23 points, and had six rebounds and five assists.

Reaves has been in great form for the Lakers, and has been complimenting stars like LeBron James and Luka Doncic well. He is averaging 19.2 points, 6.1 assists, 4.3 rebounds and 1.1 steals.

Will Austin Reaves play against the LA Clippers tonight?

On Saturday, ESPN’s Shams Charania shared an update about Reaves stating that he underwent an MRI on Saturday and there was no serious injury. Charania also revealed that his participation in Sunday’s game was under speculation.

“Lakers guard Austin Reaves will be day-to-day after MRI on his right calf revealed no serious injury, sources tell ESPN. His status is uncertain for Sunday against the Clippers, but great development overall after Reaves exited early in Friday’s win,” his tweet read.

Apart from him, a total of five other players have been named on the injury list. Jordan Goodwin, who rolled his ankle in the final minutes of the Clippers’ contest, has also been listed on the injury report as doubtful.

However, even if he misses the night, it won’t have a key effect on Lakers’ gameplay as he usually plays a minimal role for the side. In the last game, he played for 21 minutes and finished with six points, six rebounds and two assists.

In eight games he has played for the side, Goodwin is averaging 6.1 points, 3.8 rebound and 1 assist per game this season.
