Could a struggling Warriors bring down the curtain on Stephen Curry’s career sooner than expected?

Stephen Curry has spent the majority of his career rewriting NBA history, leading the Golden State Warriors to four championships and forever changing the game with his pin-point shooting. But the all-time 3-pointer shooter knows his time in the NBA is ticking down. In a recent interview with ESPN, Curry spoke candidly about the future.

“I want to do this for as long as I can,” he said.

“But the clock’s ticking.”

While LeBron James is still playing at an elite level into his 40s, Curry’s situation feels different, especially given the current state of the Golden State Warriors.

But Curry’s Tuesday outburst during Warriors’ loss to Miami Heat indicates it could be coming sooner than expected.

Curry, who scored 31 points, visibly showed his frustration during the game. As the team trailed 42-29 in the first half, Curry slammed a chair in frustration, summarizing what most of the fans have felt this season.

Warriors’ struggles and Curry’s frustration

While Curry’s performance on Tuesday was solid, it highlighted a bigger problem for the Warriors: the team is not competitive. Curry’s recent back-to-back games with zero assists spoke volumes about team’s offense’s struggles.

“Back-to-back no-shows pretty much,” Curry admitted after the 114-98 loss to Heat.

Warriors head coach Steve Kerr echoed Curry’s frustrations.

“He’s really struggling with the emotion of [the team] not being competitive right now,” Kerr said. “He probably hasn’t had to deal with this since his, I don’t know, his first couple years in the league”, Kerr said.

Warriors’ offense in freefall

For the past month and a half, the Warriors have been one of the worst offensive teams in the NBA. They are ranked among the bottom six in offensive efficiency and near the bottom in free throws made and layovers. With 17th in turnovers and little offensive flow, the team’s issues are too big to ignore.

But it is not just Warriors that has been letting him down. His own performance this season has been a hit and miss. Curry has posted the lowest points per game of his career this season, and his recent back-to-back zero-assist games show how he is struggling to be the one-man show.

Curry has said he wants to play for as long as he can, but with the Warriors’ ongoing struggles, the question is how long can he continue to carry the burden?

As the season progresses, the urgency grows. Curry and the Warriors are running out of time.
