2025 Laver Cup Day 2 Results – Fritz Stuns Alcaraz, De Minaur Defeats Zverev Before Partnering With Michelsen To Give Team World 9–3 Lead

Team World delivered a perfect response on Day 2 of the 2025 Laver Cup in San Francisco. After trailing 1–3 following Friday’s opening matches, Andre Agassi’s side produced a flawless Saturday, sweeping all four encounters to storm ahead 9–3.

The turnaround was made even more impressive by the level of opposition. Facing three of the world’s Top 11 players, including World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz, Team World displayed clinical tennis in both singles and doubles. Their energy and aggression proved decisive against Team Europe’s higher-ranked stars.

With Day 2 matches worth two points each, Team World snatched all eight points on offer. By evening, Team World had transformed the contest from an early deficit into a commanding six-point cushion heading into the final day.

De Minaur Topples Zverev To Ignite Comeback

Alex de Minaur set the tone in the opening match against Alexander Zverev. The Australian blitzed through the first set 6–1 in just 34 minutes, using relentless pace to frustrate the German. Zverev steadied in the second, but De Minaur’s consistency proved too much as he sealed a 6–1, 6–4 win.

Cerundolo Edges Rune in Thriller

Francisco Cerundolo backed up De Minaur with a hard-fought straight-sets victory over Holger Rune. The Argentine took the first set 6–3 before a dramatic second set pushed both players to the limit. After 80 minutes of intense rallies, Cerundolo prevailed in a tiebreak 7–6(5). The win pushed Team World into the lead for the first time all weekend, 5–3. Rune fought bravely but Cerundolo’s patience proved decisive.

Fritz Shocks Alcaraz With Flawless Performance

The headline result of the day came from Taylor Fritz, who produced one of the best performances of his career to dismantle Carlos Alcaraz. The American stunned the World No. 1 with a 6–3, 6–2 victory, taking both sets in under 40 minutes.

Fritz’s aggression combined with sharp net approaches gave Alcaraz very little time to settle. Fritz later revealed that he intentionally increased the pace of his groundstrokes to match the quick conditions. For Fritz, it marked his first-ever victory over Alcaraz, and for Team World, it extended the lead to 7–3.
