12 Los Angeles sports teams, including Lakers and Clippers to donate more than $8 million to wildfire relief efforts

The authorities have also offered bus transportation for those who are residing in area evacuation shelters.

The Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Clippers will join 10 other professional sports teams to donate more than $8 million to support the victims of the devastating fires across the LA area.

The press release read, “As the people of Los Angeles and its surrounding communities begin the long recovery from the region’s devastating fires, 12 professional sports organizations – Angel City FC, the Angels, Chargers, Clippers, Dodgers, Ducks, Galaxy, Kings, LAFC, Lakers, Rams and Sparks – have pledged a combined donation of more than $8 million to support victims in need, as well as those fighting the fires.”

LA teams’ community partners to organise distribution events

All Los Angeles-based teams have joined forces with Fanatics to distribute $3 million worth of Fanatics merchandise to those affected by the fires raging throughout LA. These teams will host three events, where thousands of items will be distributed.

“Bolstering their financial contributions, the 12 teams (in partnership with the teams’ own foundations) have also joined forces with Fanatics and the Fanatics Foundation to distribute $3 million worth of Fanatics merchandise to Angelenos who have been evacuated from their homes,” the press release added.

During the events, each team’s community partners will donate personal hygiene kits, school supplies, sneakers and more at Dodger Stadium, SoFi Stadium and BMO Stadium. All the victims impacted by LA fires can attend the distribution events on January 17 between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

The authorities have also offered bus transportation for those who are residing in area evacuation shelters. It will help them to reach stadium distribution sites. Lunch will also be provided to individuals and families at the stadium events.

Lakers start donation-drive on Monday

The Lakers also announced on Sunday that they will host a donation drive during their home games. The franchise will have bins set up at the Figueroa, Star Plaza and Kobe Bryant entrances outside of Crypto.com Arena to collect essentials to benefit those impacted by the wildfires.

The donation drive will take place on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Fans can reach 1.5 hours before kick-off and donate items until the halftime break. UCLA Health Training Center will also be collecting donations from Jan. 14-18 from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m.
