Lakers to host donation drive at home games to support relief efforts for LA wildfires

Fans can find collection bins at the Figueroa, Star Plaza and Kobe Bryant entrances outside of Crypto.com Arena.

The Los Angeles Lakers will return to resume their regular NBA season on Monday with a home clash against the San Antonio Spurs. During their upcoming home games, the franchise will kick off a week-long donation drive.

The Lakers announced on Sunday that they will have bins set up outside the Crypto.com Arena to collect essentials to benefit those impacted by the wildfires. The donation drive will take place on Monday against the San Antonio Spurs, Wednesday against the Miami Heat and Friday against the Brooklyn Nets.

Fans can find collection bins at the Figueroa, Star Plaza and Kobe Bryant entrances outside of Crypto.com Arena. All the fans will be able to donate essential things on Jan. 13, Jan. 15 and Jan. 17. They can arrive 1.5 hours before tip-off and donate items until the halftime break.

UCLA Health Training Center, located at 2275 E Mariposa Ave., El Segundo, CA 90245, will also be collecting essential things from Jan. 14-18 from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m.

Lakers issued a press release and provided a list of both food and non-food items needed by the community.

  • Food items: peanut and other nut butters, protein-based snacks, crackers, peanut butter crackers, trail mix, fruit snacks, energy bars, pop-top tuna, pop-top chicken, 100% juice boxes, raisins and other dried fruit, UHT milk, individual cereal boxes, 16-20 oz water, non-carbonated drinks
  • Non-food Items: deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrushes, lotion, waterless shampoo, phone chargers (battery pack), socks, mittens (gloves), hand warmers, beanies, blankets

The Lakers’ home games on Thursday and Saturday were postponed due to the wildfires. The situation is still fluid and authorities are working hard to counter it. Lakers’ head coach J.J. Redick lost his residence and Clippers star, Kawhi Leonard’s family was evacuated from the area.

As per reports, at least 24 people died in the LA wildfires and 12000 structures have been destroyed. The wildfires forced thousands to flee. Cal Fire (California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection) reported the Palisades Fire was 11 percent contained, and the Eaton Fire was 27 percent contained. Hollywood stars Billy Crystal and Mandy Moore also lost their home due to wildfire.
