The NBA has made a major development regarding the second matchup between the Spurs and the Lakers. According to the fresh report from Dave McMenamin, the Los Angeles Lakers will resume their season on Dec. 13 against the San Antonio Spurs after postponing their last two games because of the L.A. fires. The game is scheduled for Monday at 9:30 p.m. CT.
The league announced on Friday that the first game of a two-game series between the San Antonio Spurs and Los Angeles Lakers would be postponed due to the Palisades fire which is spreading across the Los Angeles area.
The NBA is monitoring the ongoing situation in Los Angeles. The league is working with the Lakers and the Clippers to figure out a solution for the upcoming home games. The league has also given a green signal to the Clippers-Heat game which is scheduled on Monday 10:30 PM ET.
Sporting Tribune’s Arash Markazi said that I asked a public safety official when it might be safe for live sporting events to resume in Los Angeles and they were not sure, adding, “I wouldn’t advice holding any large events that would require public safety resources and cause unneeded traffic before at least Wednesday.”
Fox11 Los Angeles reported that the Palisades fire has reached the Mandeville Canyon area of Brentwood where top celebrities like Kamala Harris, Lebron James, and Arnold Schwarzenegger live. Brentwood is a home to celebrities and has a population of around 35,000.
“I pray this nightmare ends soon!” LeBron James wrote on social media early Saturday morning in a message that included three praying emojis and four fingers crossed emojis. “So many prayers.”
San Antonio Spurs have been relocated to a new hotel in downtown Los Angeles. They were asked to wait for the final verdict on their two games against the Lakers. “It’s a devastating situation,” San Antonio acting coach Mitch Johnson said. “I know our people at the league, city officials and everything are in communication, so I’m sure they’ll tell us something.”
The Los Angeles wildfire started on Tuesday morning and has now damaged nearly 20,000 acres in the Palisades. As per the reports, 180,000 people were under evacuation orders due to the fires in Los Angeles County. Eaton, Hurst and Lidia Fires created more damage in the past three to four days.
“As of last night, we’ve had national guardsmen assisting us,” Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna said Friday morning. “They arrived last night, and they were deployed to the Eaton Fire area and were assisting with road closures and critical infrastructure protection.”
Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s office reported 16 casualties so far. Around 2 lakh people are under evacuation warnings. Since the fires began on Tuesday, over 12,000 structures including homes, businesses, apartment buildings and vehicles have been destroyed.
