WWE SNME: Gunther(c) vs Goldberg For World Heavyweight Championship at SNME, Match Result

Ashish Negi

Goldberg's retirement marks the end of an era.

Goldberg and Gunther’s rivalry isn’t new; in fact, it started at 2025 Badblood when Gunther crossed all the limits and called him a “One Trick Pony.” Not only that, he mocked Goldberg’s fatherhood while addressing his son, quoting, “I hope for you that Goldberg is a better father than he is a professional wrestler.” This forced Goldberg to jump the barricade, but the officials stopped him from entering the ring to confront Gunther.

Goldberg announced the most anticipated match a few weeks back on Raw. Gunther didn’t stop running his mouth, so he received a vicious punch from Goldberg last Monday Night Raw. The match between Goldberg and Gunther will mark the end of an era, as this will be Goldberg’s last match. There’s no better place to retire than in his hometown of Atlanta, Georgia.

Gunther Retains the Title, Goldberg Loses the Retirement Match

The career that started with a dominance of 173-0 ended with a defeat as Gunther held Goldberg in a Sleeper hold, and the latter faded away. The legend that pulled WWE on his back retires after a loss. Goldberg apologized to Atlanta before retiring for being subpar.

The history, however, was never on Goldberg’s side as the retirement matches never end well for the retiring legend, and it repeated itself tonight.

Goldberg dominated the match and shrugged off Gunther’s chop with a loud laugh. He made a ragdoll out of Gunther during the initial part of the match, throwing him from one point to another. He set up for a spear, but Gunther rolled out of the ring. Gunther and Goldberg fought outside, and the latter went for a Spear, but Gunther dodged. Goldberg went straight into the barricade, and this shifted the momentum towards Gunther.

Gunther started attacking the left knee of Goldberg, which is already braced. Goldberg tried to shift momentum with a Spinebuster and a Backbody drop. Goldberg went for another Spear, but Gunther dodged, and the referee received the impact. Goldberg delivered a Spear and a Jackhammer, but Goldberg could cover him instantly and could only get a two count. Gunther held Goldberg in the Sleeperhold, and the legend faded away.
