Playoff race tightens as Golden State overpower Connecticut
The Sun vs. Valkyries matchup unfolded Monday night at Chase Center, delivering a vital contest for both playoff hopefuls. The Golden State Valkyries have been producing statement performances, strengthening their playoff credentials with each passing game this season.
They started the game strongly with 14-10 in the first half. However, the Connecticut Sun raised their level in the second quarter, but still entered halftime trailing 16-18 to the hosts. The home side had a good lead going into the second half.
They continued their domination with a 23-18 score in the third quarter. The Connecticut Sun were effectively out of the game by the end of the third quarter. This led to some rotations from the Valkyries coach.

The home side outscored their opponents once again in the last 10 minutes with 19-13. They won the game by 74-57 against the Connecticut Sun, taking their current season record to 16-15.
The Golden State Valkyries climbed to the 7th spot on the table with a winning percentage of .516. They are just behind the Last Vegas Aces, who are at the 6th spot with a record of 18-14. With the playoff window closing fast, each victory becomes critical in the Valkyries’ fight to secure a postseason berth.
Cecilia Zandalasini and Tiffany Hayes each scored a Sun vs Valkyries game high 17 points. Janelle Salaun wasn’t behind by much, registering 16 for the Golden State Valkyries. For the Sun, Annesah Morrow scored 13 points, and grabbed 14 rebounds.
Valkyries coach Natalie Nakase said, “We were taking quality shots at the beginning. We were getting wide open layups and sometimes we were just missing. I told them keep your heads up, continue to let it fly, shoot with a lot of confidence.”
