WNBA Results, August 10: A’ja Wilson Scripts History in Aces’ Win, Atlanta Extends Winning Streak to Five, and More

A total of five WNBA games were played on Sunday. Read on to catch highlights.

It was another exciting day in the WNBA, where a total of ten teams locked horns in five games throughout the day. On one end, we saw the top two teams of this season, the New York Liberty and the Minnesota Lynx clashing against each other, while on the other hand, we saw the worst-performing team, Connecticut Sun, suffering another loss. The WNBA playoffs are approaching and teams are gearing up for the final push that would help them secure a berth in the top eight.

The upcoming games are going to be more entertaining, but as another action-filled day winds down in the WNBA, let’s get into the highlights of what happened on court on Sunday.

The 2025 finalists Minnesota Lynx and the New York Liberty locked horns in a gripping game on Sunday. The game ended up with the Lynx registering a significant 83-71 win over their arch rivals and the reigning champions, Liberty. The victory pushed the Lynx’s tally to 27-5 in the ongoing season, while New York is 20-11. Kayla McBride posted 18 points, one rebound, and two assists for the Lynx while DiJonai Carrington came up with 15 points, six rebounds, and three assists. Apart from them, two more players, including Courtney Williams and Natisha Hiedeman registered double-digit scores.

On the other hand, Natasha Cloud dropped 14 points, and grabbed six rebounds, and five assists. Two players, Jonquel Jones and Emma Meesseman came up with 11 points, each. Sabrina Ionescu and Marine Johannes dropped 10 points each.

Washington Mystics 91-78 Dallas Wings

The Washington Mystics ended their four-game losing streak as they took down the Dallas Wings 91-78. The defeat pushed the Wings’ losing skid to five games. Kiki Iriafen dropped 23 points, 10 rebounds, and one assist and became the first rookie in the history of the franchise to record 250+ rebounds. Sonia Citron dropped 18 points, five rebounds, and six assists, while Stefanie Dolson chipped in 14 points, four rebounds, and three assists.

For the Wings, Paige Bueckers poured in 17 points, three rebounds, and three assists. With this performance, she extended her double-digit scoring streak to 25 games. Not only this, but she is also the fastest rookie in the league’s history to reach 450+ points, 100+ rebounds, and 100+ assists. Arike Ogunbowale dropped 12 points, while Haley Jones and Luisa Geiselsoder chipped in 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Atlanta Dream 74-66 Phoenix Mercury

The Atlanta Dream recorded their fifth straight and eighth win in the last ten games as they defeated the Phoenix Mercury 74-66. Allisha Gray dropped 17 points, five rebounds, and five assists while Brionna Jones came up with 15 points for the Dream. Naz Hillmon and Jordin Canada chipped in 13 points, respectively for the winners.

On the Mercury’s side, Alyssa Thomas came up with 21 points, eight rebounds, and five assists. DeWanna Bonner chipped in 16 points, five rebounds, and one assist. Apart from them, no other player could finish with a double-digit score.

The Los Angeles Sparks turned around the outcome of their previous game, and registered a close 94-91 win over the Seattle Storm. Kelsey Plum led the Sparks with 20 points, six rebounds, and seven assists while Dearica Hamby chipped in 19 points, seven rebounds, and two assists. Azura Stevens dropped 15 points, eight rebounds, and one assist for the Sparks, who are now 15-16 in the ongoing season.

For the Storm, Brittney Sykes dropped 27 points, one rebound, and three assists, while Dominique Malonga dropped in 20 points, 11 rebounds, and one assist. Skylar Diggins chipped in 17 points, two rebounds, and six assists. The defeat pushed the Storm’s record 16-16 in the ongoing season.

A’ja Wilson scripted WNBA history and guided the Las Vegas Aces to a remarkable 94-86 win over the Connecticut Sun. Wilson led the Aces with 32 points, 20 rebounds, and five assists, and became the first player in the history of the league to have a 30-20 game. Jackie Young contributed 21 points, four rebounds, and six assists while Jewell Loyd came up with 12 points, two rebounds, and two assists. The Aces are now 18-14 in the ongoing season.

On the Sun’s side, three players finished with double-digit scores. While Marina Mabrey recorded 22 points, four rebounds, and three assists, Saniya Rivers came up with 17 points, one rebound, and four assists. Leila Lacan chipped in 13 points and five assists for the Sun, who are still at the bottom of the standings with only five wins this season.
