The New York Knicks are set to take on the Minnesota Timberwolves this Friday, but the biggest storyline will be the availability of Knicks forward Karl-Anthony Towns, who is preparing for his second face-off against his former team this season.

The 29-year-old spent nine seasons in Minnesota after being selected with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft. During his time with the Timberwolves, Towns became a franchise icon, winning the 2015-16 NBA Rookie of the Year award and making four All-Star appearances.

However, his relationship with the Timberwolves ended in October 2024 when he was traded to the Knicks in a high-profile deal that also sent Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo to Minnesota.

In their first meeting in December, Towns starred in his return to Target Center, leading the Knicks to a dominant 133-107 win. Knicks fans will be hoping for another monster performance on Friday night.

The center is listed as questionable for the game due to a sprained right thumb, an injury he sustained during New York’s loss to Detroit on Monday. Towns was on the sidelines in Knicks’ win at Philadelphia on Wednesday, and his status for Friday’s game remains up in the air.

Meanwhile, Minnesota’s Donte DiVincenzo, who was preparing for a return at Madison Square Garden, will also miss the game due to a toe injury.
