Why Is Jets QB Jordan Travis Retiring From the NFL?

Heartbreak for Travis as he retires without playing a single down in the NFL!

Former New York Jets quarterback Jordan Travis has taken the monumental decision of calling it quits to his NFL career at the age of just 24 years old. The Florida native suffered a gruesome leg injury in his final college game when he took the field for Florida State against North Alabama on Nov. 18, 2023.

Unfortunately, for the former Seminole, even after spending more than a year in rehab, Travis has not been able to make the type of progress that he desired. After consultations with doctors, medical experts, and his agent, Travis has decided to retire from the sport, bringing an end to a career that never took off in the NFL. Travis put out an official statement where he described that this difficult decision had to be taken despite tremendous efforts on his side during rehab.

“On November 18, 2023, my life took an unexpected turn. I gave everything I had to the rehab process but despite all my efforts, my leg never responded the way we hoped. After much prayer and consultation with the doctors, medical experts and my agent, I’ve been medically advised to retire from the game I love so deeply.”

Despite injuring his leg, Travis had declared for the 2024 NFL draft and was selected in the fifth round by the Jets. On 27, 2024, he was placed on the reserve/non-football injury list as he continued rehab on his leg.

Jordan Travis’ College Career

Although Travis never got the chance to play a snap at the professional level despite being drafted into the league, he did have a wonderful 6-year college career that spanned from 2018 to 2023. Starting out with the Louisville Cardinals in 2018, Travis transferred to Florida State in 2019.

Becoming the starter in 2020, Travis would go on to lead the Seminoles to a 29-10 record over the next 4 years, including a perfect 11-0 season in 2023. Overall, he finished his collegiate career with 8,693 passing yards, 66 touchdowns, and 20 interceptions, while also rushing for 1,934 yards and adding 31 touchdowns along the ground. After an excellent campaign in 2023, Travis received First-team All-ACC, ACC Offensive Player of the Year, and the ACC Player of the Year honors.
