Why A’ja Wilson Should be the MVP of 2025 WNBA Season? LA Aces Head Coach Explains!

Gulshan Sharma

Wilson led all the scorers with 36 points, 13 rebounds, two steals, two blocks, and an assist over 33-minute stay.

A’ja Wilson is getting big appreciation from Becky Hammon and according to the Las Vegas head coach, the 29-year-old center should be the MVP of the 2025 WNBA season. Her statement came just after the remarkable victory of Ace against the Washington Mystics on Saturday evening.

Wilson led all the scorers with 36 points, 13 rebounds, two steals, two blocks, and an assist over 33-minute stay. The Aces center was shooting 14-for-22 from the field and 1-of-2 from beyond the arc. She went 7-of-8 from the free-throw line.

Becky Hammon Backs A’ja Wilson to Win the 2025 MVP Award

Hammon, the Aces head coach reflected on Wilson’s performance after the victory on Saturday evening. She proposed Wilson’s name as the MVP of the 2025 regular season and the numbers are justifying her endorsement.

“Anytime a media person has to ask a question, ‘who’s as good as A’ja Wilson,’ that’s where you start with the conversation, that’s your answer. That’s your answer. She’s top three in every major statistical category, but most importantly, efficiency. She’s number one in efficiency. And to me, people need to do that kind of homework,” Hammon said.

“I know, at times I can look down at the stat sheet and I’m like, ‘oh s***, she had 36 or 34?’ Like, you don’t even notice because it’s become so normal. I told her that in front of the group the other day, I don’t shout out her numbers in front of the group very often, but like, I don’t want it to, I don’t want her to think I’m missing her. And I don’t want the world to miss her because she’s here, she’s right now, she’s in the prime and she is killing it. And, I don’t know, like I said, if she’s the conversation starter, she is the conversation.”

It was the second season for Wilson where she recorded at least 30 points in a game 10 times. She became the only player in the league history to have multiple seasons with 10 or more 30-point games. With her blistering form, the Las Vegas Aces extended their winning streak to record 10 matches and their playoffs hopes are high.

Apart from Wilson, three more players scored in double-digits for Las Vegas. Dana Evans highlighted a 20-point outburst including three rebounds, three assists, and a block. She was shooting 8-of-11 from the field and 5-of-6 from 3-point line. Jackie Young added 10 points and eight assists, and NaLyssa Smith dropped eight points and two rebounds. Jewell Loyd contributed eight points and three assists.
