Man City Land 18-Year-Old Sverre Nypan – Here’s All You Need To Know About Norway’s Next Big Talent.
Manchester City are continuing with their aggressive summer recruitment drive. Their latest acquisition is the Norwegian midfield prodigy Sverre Nypan from Rosenborg. The 18-year-old becomes City’s fifth summer signing this year. This is now shaping up to be a transformative window for the side who has had a quiet 2024-25 season.
Reportedly, City have agreed to pay a £12.5 million (€14.6m) fee to secure the highly-rated teenager. Reportedly, he is signing a long-term five-year contract with the Citizens, that’s expected to run until 2030. Only personal terms are left to be finalized for the move to complete.

As per reports, City plan to send Nypan out on loan for the coming season. Manchester City is said to have beat out competition from Arsenal, Aston Villa, and Girona to sign Sverre Nypan. Even though the player was interested in a move out in January, Man City showed no interest then.
Clearly that scenario changed as this deal could now ultimately become the biggest transfer fees ever received by a Norwegian club. That is, if the offer price goes above the reported amount. The last record was held by Chelsea when they paid a €20 million fee for John Obi.

Born in 2006, the 18-year-old Sverre Nypan is already considered one of Europe’s most exciting midfield prospects. He is coming to England after already making waves at his home. Nypan made his senior debut for Rosenborg at just 15. He soon became the club’s youngest ever goalscorer the following year.
Transfermarkt’s Norway expert, Bastian Schmitz has described the youngster as “a central/offensive midfielder with an exceptionally high football IQ… two-footed, creative, and has a good passing game.” His versatility has seen him deployed across midfield and even as a false nine.

Nypan joined Rosenborg in January 2022 and has since made over 70 appearances for the club. In that time, he scored 14 goals and provided 11 assists. His league average of one goal or assist every 178 minutes has been impressive for a teenager. In 2023 and 2024, he was also named the Norwegian League’s Young Player of the Year.
Nypan has also represented Norway at various youth levels, from U-15 to U-21. He even featured in Rosenborg’s 1-0 friendly win over Manchester United in July 2024. With Erling Haaland and Martin Odegaard already excelling in the Premier League, Nypan could just turn out to be the next big Norwegian name in England.
