Manchester City have wasted no time in reshaping their squad for the Club World Cup following a disappointing domestic campaign.

After a disastrous 2024–25 campaign that saw Manchester City’s dominance in English football finally broken, the Club World Cup in the United States represents a fresh start for Pep Guardiola’s side. With the tournament marking the beginning of a new chapter, the Cityzens will be out to reclaim their aura on the global stage.

City kick off their Group E campaign on June 18 against Wydad Casablanca in Philadelphia, followed by encounters with Al Ain and Juventus. With a slightly leaner squad than usual, Guardiola will be banking on his core squad and the new additions to set the tone for Manchester City’s resurence.

Notable names like Jack Grealish, Kevin De Bruyne, and Kyle Walker were absent from City’s 27-man squad. In contrast, four new signings and a number of young talents have been drafted as Guardiola looks for the long-term rebuild ahead of the 2025–26 season.

Erling Haaland

Erling Haaland remains the focal point of City’s attack. Despite Manchester City’s inconsistent season, Haaland delivered once again with 22 Premier League goals and 8 more in the Champions League, proving he’s far from slowing down. Known for his brute strength and deadly instincts in the box, he’ll lead the line in the U.S. as City look to defend their Club World Cup crown. Haaland’s record across three seasons at City is phenomenal, 85 league goals in 97 appearances. He’ll be aiming to add Club World Cup silverware to an already decorated spell.

Rayan Cherki

Recently signed from Olympique Lyon, Rayan Cherki arrives in Manchester with plenty of expectations. The 21-year-old attacking midfielder impressed in Ligue 1, racking up 32 goal contributions in 44 appearances last season. Cherki brings creativity and technical brilliance to Manchester City’s attack. Whether deployed centrally or out wide, Cherki could be Guardiola’s secret weapon as the City team transitions into a new era.

New Players Joined

Manchester City have wasted no time in reshaping their squad following a disappointing domestic campaign. They recently unveilied four fresh additions in their Club World Cup squad. New signings include goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli, left-back Rayan Ait-Nouri from Wolves, midfielder Tijjani Reijnders from AC Milan, and creative talent Rayan Cherki from Lyon. They join the January recruits Omar Marmoush, Abdukodir Khusanov, and Vitor Reis.
