The "Smooth Operator" will be sporting new colors in the 2025 Formula 1 season.
Carlos Sainz Jr. has gone through a major change in momentum for the 2025 season. The Spaniard was amongst the top drivers of the grid in 2024. He had a successful stint at Ferrari where he was able to claim his first victory in Formula 1. However, Sainz Jr. made a huge decision for the 2025 season which was enough to surprise the entire Formula 1 community. It was obvious that Sainz would not be competing at Ferrari anymore after they signed a deal with Lewis Hamilton.
Although, the announcement came early on in the season and it was expected that Sainz had many choices to make before he could settle in. Sainz Jr. has decided that he will be racing for the Williams Formula 1 team in 2025. Williams were arguably one of the worst teams of the Formula 1 grid. As such, Sainz’s decision shocked the entire community. The Spaniard on the other hand is more than ready to bring Williams back to their former and lead the team.
Alex Albon will be the second driver for Williams in the 2025 season. Albon was a fellow Red Bull junior driver like Sainz. He has been the go to driver for Williams in the past few years. Alex Albon has proved himself a dependable driver scoring points for Williams when they needed it the most. Alex Albon and Carlos Sainz Jr. are counted among the best driver pairings of the 2025 season.
There is no doubt that the duo has a lot of experience under their belt. Sainz is a race winner and a former driver for two top teams of the Formula 1 grid. Albon may have had a bad stint at Red Bull but he has also secured podiums. As such, the drivers are expected to lead Williams as a competitive midfield team if not fight on the front row
When Carlos Sainz’s contract was not renewed for 2025, there were many speculations about the teams he was going to join for the 2025 season. Sainz is undoubtedly among the better drivers of the grid. He was a former driver for Toro Rosso and the Red Bull Junior team. The underperforming Sergio Perez was bound for a replacement and many speculated that Sainz would return to Red Bull as an apt competition for Max Verstappen.
Carlos Sainz’s father is a rally driver for Audi. There were rumours that the Spaniard would get a seat at Sauber due to Audi’s 2026 take over plans. It would be easy for him to get into the team considering his connections with Audi. But ultimately, Carlos Sainz Jr. chose to stay with Williams.
Do you think the stark contrast in the competitiveness of the teams will get to Carlos Sainz at Williams?
nhl I work as a Writer at The Playoffs specialising in NHL, Formula 1 and Motorsports. I got into online journalism a couple of years ago. I used to be an intern for a website managing their Formula 1 content and then I served an entire year as a contractual writer.
Read moreFor me, online journalism was not something I expected. I am a Mechanical Engineer aiming to join Formula 1. At the same time, I am a poet, writer and my university’s Literary Club Lead. One day the dots connected together and I realised I could use my writing skills to convey my passion for Motorsports.
The biggest aspects I love about my role are- Scuderia Ferrari and Sebastian Vettel. When I am not fawning over them I like to convey my opinions to the public, in a manner which helps them gain a new point of view. I love helping people explore new ideas about Motorsports and obviously get recognised as a writer all over the world.
Message to Readers: I promise you one day you’ll see me managing operations on track with a Formula 1 team ; )
