Aston Villa almost pulled heroics as they kept PSG by a thread for the final half-hour of the Champions League second leg. Coming into the clash with an aggregate of 3-1, Aston Villa managed to pull three goals by the hour mark putting one behind PSG.

Villa managed to get away 19 shots in the 90 minutes as Gianluigi Donarumma was on his ‘A’ game today. Unai Emery’s side was denied by the goalkeeper as they lost the tie 4-5 to PSG. Luis Enrique’s side will qualify for the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League.

Who is Aston Villa’s Set-Piece Coach?

Austin MacPhee is the set-piece coach of Aston Villa. The Scottish coach joined the English side as a specialist in 2021. MacPhee was also announced as the assistant manager of the Portugal National Team in February 2025.

MacPhee,45, started his managerial career in 2007 as he moved up the ranks and joined Scotland as an assistant in 2021. Under his guidance, Villa has managed to score 13 set-piece goals this season.

Assistant head coach: Pako Ayestaran

Pako Avestaran joined Aston Villa on the arrival of Emery in October 2022. Ayestaran has worked with several reputed clubs like Liverpool and Valencia in the past. He spent 11 years under Rafa Benitez as his assistant during this tenure.

Pablo Villanueva joined Aston Villa’s coaching staff to continue working with Unai Emery, having previously served as a first-team coach under him at Sevilla, PSG, Arsenal, and Villarreal before their move to Birmingham in 2022.

Goalkeeping Coach: Francisco Javier Garcia

The Spanish manager also brought Francisco Javier Garcia as the goalkeeping coach at Aston Villa. He has had a long-term relationship with Emery accompanying him since his time in 2013. The duo has spent time together at prestige clubs like Arsenal, Sevilla and PSG.
