Dortmund vs Barcelona: Blaugrana Talisman Set To Return for Champions League Quarter-Final Second Leg

Midfielder Returns From Injury for Barcelona’s UCL Quarter-Final Second Leg Clash at Signal Iduna Park.

Barcelona have traveled to Signal Iduna Park with one foot firmly in the UEFA Champions League semi-finals. They sealed a resounding 4-0 win in the Champions League quarter-final first leg against Borussia Dortmund at home. Now, with their focus fully on the return leg in Germany, the Catalan side are determined to finish the job.

The Catalan side are aiming to reach the Champions League semi-finals for the first time since 2019. And this could be fueled by the return of the key midfielder Dani Olmo. Olmo missed the first leg against the German side along with a few more games recovering from an injury he sustained in March.

Dani Olmo Returns from Injury

The return of Dani Olmo has been a major squad boost for coach Hansi Flick. The Spain international suffered an adductor injury during their La Liga match against Osasuna on March 17. Now, after spending a significant recovery time, Olmo has received medical clearance.

Flick named in the traveling squad for the match against Dortmund as well. Olmo missed a total of five matches during his recovery. This didn’t only include the first leg against Dortmund, but also the Copa del Rey semifinal against Atletico Madrid. However, he has returned to full training and could feature at some point in the second leg.

Flick may decide to rotate his squad having gotten Olmo back. Barcelona also have a hectic schedule ahead, so he needs to keep players fresh for the rest of the campaign. While Olmo is likely to begin on the bench, Flick may use him in the latter stages depending on the flow of the game.

Squad Rotation Expected

Keeping their busy fixture and a strong first-leg advantage in mind, Flick may rotate a number of players in this second leg match. Robert Lewandowski, who has netted 11 UCL goals this season, could be rested against his former club. Whereas, Ferran Torres, who has impressed in recent outings, might start in his place.

Additionally, Raphinha remains a key figure as the Champions League’s current top scorer. As the Blaugrana take on Dortmund in front of a raucous home crowd, Dortmund will give a tough fight to overturn the scoring. It will be interesting to see how the coach manages his squad rotation with Dani Olmo’s return offering an extra boost.
