Anna Kalinskaya is making waves in Cincinnati, charging into the 2025 Cincinnati Open quarterfinals for a clash with world No. 3 Iga Swiatek. The 26-year-old Russian peaked at No. 11 in singles last October and cracked the doubles top 40 this August. She owns four WTA doubles titles, including a win at the 2025 Madrid Open with Sorana Cirstea, plus nine ITF doubles, seven ITF singles crowns, and a WTA Challenger singles title.

Athletics runs in the family, as her brother, also named Nikolay after their father, plays professional football for FC Pari Nizhny Novgorod. Anna Kalinskaya’s mother is Elena Kalinskaya. She originally belongs to Dnipro, Ukraine and is also a former badminton player. She currently coaches junior players. Anna used to spend her summers in Ukraine with Elena and her grandmother. Around the age of five, she saw a cousin of hers playing tennis and so got hooked, joining local tennis academies. By 14, she had relocated to the United States to chase the sport full-time, a decision now paying off on the WTA stage.
