Everything you need to know about the second season of the NBA Cup
After a successful debut in the 2023-24 season, the NBA’s annual in-season competition, the Emirates NBA Cup will return next week. Beginning Tuesday, November 12, the tournament, rebranded as the Emirates Cup this season, will take place over the next month.
The tournament will provide all 30 teams in the league with an opportunity to chase another championship. Moreover, they can collect a portion of a lucrative prize pool. That said, let’s take a look at everything we need to know about it.
The 2024 Emirates NBA Cup will start with group play on Tuesday, 12 November. The final group games are scheduled for Tuesday, 3 December.
The quarter-finals of the tournament will be played on Tuesday, 10 December, and Wednesday, 11 December. The semi-finals and championship final will be played in Las Vegas on 14 December and 17 December, respectively.
All 30 teams have been randomly drawn into six groups of five teams each. Each group contains teams from the same conference (i.e. Western or Eastern). Each team will play one game against each opponent in their group, with two games at home and two on the road.
Eight teams from the group stage will advance to the knockout rounds: six group winners and two “wild cards” (one team from each conference with the best runner-up record). The knockout rounds (quarter-finals, semi-finals, and championship) will be single-elimination games.
