Brock Purdy, once the NFL‘s most overrated quarterback according to many fans, and the last pick in the 2022 NFL draft, has secured a five-year $265 million extension with the San Francisco 49ers. The deal clearly catapults Purdy from one of the league’s lowest paid quarterbacks to one of the highest paid QBs alongside, Detroit’s Jared Goff.

Purdy’s rise from a $3.74 million rookie contract to this massive extension reflects his on-field success, including a 23-13 regular-season record, a Pro Bowl nod, and leading the 49ers to a Super Bowl appearance in 2023. Despite a 6-9 record in 2024, which was marred by injuries to multiple key players such as Christian McCaffrey and Brandon Aiyuk, Purdy produced as ranked seventh in the NFL for his 67.9 quarterback rating, and not to forget his 3864 passing yards on 20 touchdowns, which may have solidified the 49ers’ confidence in him as their franchise quarterback.

While Purdy’s $53 annual average salary didn’t reset the market as some speculated, it aligns with recent extensions for Goff and Tagovailoa, which surely reflects his value without having to surpass other top-tier QBs who are listed in front of him from a contractual standpoint. The 49ers, in our opinion, can definitely find similar success with Brock Purdy as their franchise quarterback. As mentioned earlier, taking a look at his records and accolades so far, he can definitely help the 49ers achieve similar success that they did in 2023. If Purdy can get back to his 2013 form where he had a passer rating of 113.0, the 49ers most definitely have a bright chance to not only reach the finals, but perhaps win it all.
